A few weeks ago, I mentioned that we had to take our cat Mikey to the vet.  It seemed like he just had some sort of bug and was getting better.  But, last week he took a turn for the worse and never recovered.  Saying good bye to that little guy was one of the hardest things…pets truly become part of the family.  And Mikey was no different, he made us laugh and made us angry – but he was always there at the end of the day to curl up on your lap.  I still expect him to always be around the corner, and I imagine it will take a while to remember he won’t be there.  My wife picked up Mikey for something like $35 from a local shelter.13010126933_5528e2e174_z 13010136373_21dc494868_z 13010772835_4794611caa_z 13011363275_c1e2c0ef0a_z 14026784514_2f1c3c3883_z  We both agree it was the best $35 either of us has ever spent.

Aren’t shelter cats wonderful? We also have a rescue kitteh. The shelter we got her from actually paid *us* to take her off their hands. She was a handful at first, but has since mellowed into a wonderful companion cat. She’s now over 15 years old and is still going strong.

They are pretty great, we recently got another one…he is a pain in the butt sometimes (OK most times), but it wouldn’t be home without him that is for sure.
